As we settle into business and fast approach the new financial year, our minds turn to goal setting, planning and budgeting. With so many uncertainties in our world right now, setting goals can seem extra challenging but, in fact, this can be a great way to help you stay focused and clear-headed even when everything around you seems to be in turmoil.
Let’s Get Started
Think First
Before you actually start taking pen to paper or pulling out the whiteboard, take a moment to think. Consider what is most important to you. Who do you want to be? What position do you want to be in by the end of the year? What do you want to have?
Take Stock
What areas of life do you feel like you are doing well, and what areas do you want to improve? Consider all areas of your life and make a note of any areas that you would like to prioritise more this year be it social, financial, personal or anything else.
Know Where You’re at Now
Take a look at your calendar and see if your daily schedule is conducive to living the life you desire. Track your time for three days and you will learn what your highest priorities are. What needs to change?
Look at the last 100 transactions on your online banking and see if your wallet is in line with your life goals. How could resources, time and money alike, be better spent to bring you closer to your best self?
Write Down Your Goals
We will dedicate an entire post to this next week, complete with a template to guide you through the process. If some goals come to mind over the next few days, jot them down.
When should I begin?
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb
Next week, we will share an in depth post to help make your goals a reality. If you haven’t started on your goals list, we hope you will find help and inspiration from the ideas shared today.
